“An incredibly important work that highlights how ill-prepared America is to not only deter but defeat the aggressive actions of China. A must-read.”
CHAD SBRAGIA, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for China
The threat to the United States from the Peoples’ Republic of China (PRC) is multifaceted, long term, and aggressive. Whether it’s from military modernization to economic coercion, cyber warfare to space competition, the PRC’s national security challenge is global, targeting U.S. interests, values, security, and standing in the world.
The book Confronting China: U.S. Defense Policy in an Era of Great Power Competition offers a unique insider view of what America must do to deter, defeat, and roll back the long-term security threat posed by China to the American Republic. Featuring contributions from eleven senior U.S. defense and national security leaders, this comprehensive volume provides unique insights into the complex nature of the China challenge and what the U.S. must do in response to it across a variety of regional and functional domains.
"IMPORTANT. Its senior policy contributors are experts in their field and their recommendations are worth considering.
PETER BERGEN, Journalist, author of The Rise and Fall of Osama bin Laden
"COMPREHENSIVE. The editors have zeroed in on the most pressing challenges US decision-makers face today. The authors explain why competition for the sake of competition will not preserve the peace or secure US interests. Confronting China answers the mail!
CHRIS MILLER, U.S. Army (Ret.), former Acting Secretary of Defense under President Donald Trump.
"CLEAR-EYED. An unflinching look at what the Pentagon needs to do to defeat an aggressive China and to protect American interests, lives, and values."
BING WEST, co-author of Call Sign Chaos: Learning to Lead
"SWEEPING IN ITS SCOPE. If you read only one book on China over the next year, this is it. Written in jargon-free prose and accessible to policy wonks and concerned citizens alike. This book will be read and studied for many years to come."
ROBERT C. O’BRIEN, 27th U.S. National Security Advisor
